The other day I was driving and thinking about how pray works or how we think prayer should work. The obvious theory is:
Pray for something and God will make it happen.
Not quite! I don't know about you but I have struggled with allergies ever since junior high school. I can remember days that I would come home and my sleeves would be soaked with snot. I know pretty gross but you wouldn't understand unless you deal with it. Didn't matter in junior high anyways because I wasn't in on the popular crowd (that is another series of blogs). Anyways, I have prayed that God take this miserable ailment from me. "Has He?" you ask. No He hasn't. Why? I don't know but what I do know is that there is a reason for everything under God's mysterious, magical plan.
My wife constantly has migraines. I hate it when she gets them. I wish there was something that I could do. I often pray that God will take the pain away from her but she still gets them. We know that God has the power to do anything and everything but it is not on our terms. We think that we should hold the key to what happens but the truth is that God has our best interests in mind. The here and now might not look so good but we can not see around the corner of the future.
My prayer God, is this:
Please reduce the suffering in the world but not if it is under your divine plan.
