I don't know where you go to church but it is hard sometimes to go, isn't it? I mean we get there and greet the same people, hear the same type of stuff and sit next to the same people. Do you ever wonder where the real deep seeded passion is? Guess what? That passion needs to come from us!
Somewhere, in the church's history, church leaders and church goers got really self focused. You know what I mean. The kind of focus that comments like "But what about us?" or "I don't really like..." came from. Well, doesn't the church exist for church goers? The answer is "Yes" but there are some other aspects that the church was made for and we seem, more often than not, to forget.
Our church here in Holland has been in an ongoing discussion about evangelism, how to reach the community around us and do it effectively. In discussing this we have found that there can be an opposition when you start to focus on evangelism or something that takes resources and time away from the goers. Goers have a way to let you know what they like and what they don't.
Is it really about us? Is that all church is? A place for goers? There is got to be more, right? In my opinion there has to be, otherwise it is a waste of our time.
I am still processing a lot of things and this is just the tip of a conversation that is ongoing with people around me and in my head. I will make sure to write more as I have time to think and process. I would love any comments as we journey together.
In process,
~Hosh~
