Today I had an epiphany.
I was talking to Paul about a work related issue and when we were done I walked away. Now, that in it itself is no big deal. I talk to Paul all the time. I often call him PVD, his nickname. As I was walking away I realized that I had the song, “Walk On” in my head by U2. A great song, yes-—but the weird thing was that I hadn’t heard that song in like a month! I started to ask myself where that came from. I thought back to the month before where I heard it. I realized that the band had played that in church one beautiful Sunday morning and behind them was a video. “Oh yeah”, I exclaimed in my head, “I was in that video.” Matter of fact I had filmed that video with Paul in Chicago.
Wait a minute, are you telling me that the song “Walk On” by U2 is now associated with PVD? Maybe. Could it be that the weird songs that I wake up with in my head (Pet Shop Boys, U2, R.E.M.) are all from my subconscious? Maybe even certain people evoke a song or maybe even a smell? It is weird to think that my brain can do something without me even knowing about it. So the next time you have a song in your head ask yourself “What evoked that?” Who knows it could be that you heard it as you were walking your sister’s twice removed niece’s Great Aunt’s dog!

Hosh,
You're finally getting it. A song isn't a song until you hear it. If it's in your dreams then that's the song of your dreams. If it's on the radio, then it's a song from the airwaves. It's pretty clear really.
