There was an article in Sentinel today that was talking about how much of the show is not a part of the television series. How their advertising tells part of the story, their web presence tells another part and on and on it goes. You may refer to this as the marketing machine but it is so much more than that. I think it was one of the big wigs at ABC that said we need not let the advertising tail wag the content dog or something like that. In other words don't create advertising just for the sake of advertising. That is a great thing to take away for those of us involved with advertising. There is so much more in telling a story. People love stories. Just look at the following this show has. Countless blogs, web sites, fan clubs: You name it and there is one for Lost.
The writters and think tanks behind this show are number one in my book! After suspecting and listening to their official podcast the other day, I know now, for a fact that they have been playing off their audience. It looks as though they keep up on blogs, fan clubs, etc. to see where people interests are. They said that they have the big stuff written out for the next season but the show is very organic. It could look one way in a draft and then a week later before it airs they switch it all around. Absolutely amazing!
Absolutely Lost,

Hosher,
Warning: Lost will suck you in, and once you're in...you become part of the story. Your life will no longer be your own, but rather a virtual playing out of a script written by a writer who's high on crystal meth. A word to the wise...Beware of the black smoke.
