I co-lead a small group of about 15 - 30 students. I know that is more a medium sized group. Anyways tonight's topic was entitled "Where is the Love?" I do not usually have topic titles but thought that this tied in nicely being a song by the Black Eyed Peas. This has been on the brain lately with reading Walk On. Just how the church as a whole has this "I am better than you attitude" for nonbelievers. Again, this is not all churches or all the people that attend church but I think that this can be seen all over the place. Out of all the places that people should feel welcome and loved it should be the church. Where was it that the church got caught up in keeping up with the Jones'? Suppose a Biker with 400 tattoos, three rings in his lip and chaps on walks into the lobby of your church, what it the first thought that comes to mind? Is that the right thought to have? (Supposing you thought "What the heck is that guy doing her?" If you thought, "Hey glad to see that guy here! I have been praying for him for some time now!" Congrats, you have a softer heart than I do.) Why is it that we think you have to have it all together to go to church? Where did the world get the idea that all of us Christians are perfect. Where did we get that idea for heaven's sake! Shame on us! Christ touched lepers and talked with prostitutes! Definitely my heart has been softened over the past few years but I still have a long way to go. My first reaction is wrong but then I get past that impression and strike up a conversation with the individual that needs Christ as much as me.
There is so much to write on this subject and I am sure that I will blog about this in the future but I need to say good night for now. "Sleep well and dream of Large women" -The Princess Bride
