It’s kind of funny, really. You grow up thinking a certain way about something, which may or may not be true in reality, but you believe it to be true in your heart. This has happened to me on a few things. Not to say it’s bad but it can be bad if you are presented with real truth and you just pass it by. I guess what you believe to be true, but in reality is really not true, is not truth at all. Did I lose you?
Here’s the deal. I have always thought that there is one true Will of God for me in my life and in turn for everyone else too. There was one woman out there for me to marry and I married her. There is one perfect job that God wants me at in a specific time frame. There is one house that He wanted us to have. One this, one that and one the other. One problem with this is that it really takes our free will out of it and puts in a lot of pressure. The pressure can almost be insurmountable for us.
Through a conversation I had, I have come to realize and believe that God’s will for our lives is not the bulls eye on the target but it is the target itself! What a revelation. Now, there are some things to consider. God has given us gifts and passions right? I think that all that God asks of us is to use those gifts and passions for His glory. Would you agree? So, rule number one for God’s will: Use your God given talents & passions for God.
The second rule to be in God’s will is: Does it line up with scripture? If it does, then it fits. If not, then no way is it in God’s will for you. I don’t believe that God wants you to use your gift of finance to work for the Mob and handle all their transactions!
Now, it just so happens that I am married. I think for you single people this one might not apply. Since I am married it is biblical for me to provide for my family. Therefore rule number three is: Provide for your family.
I am not saying that I know everything that there is to know about God’s will. His will is always mysterious. We never fully know what he has in store for us but I do believe that he wants us to use these guidelines in figuring out what and where we want to go. Did you notice it? The “want” in the previous sentence? That’s right, through this lens of God’s will we are free to make our own choices on what we want to do. God wired us a certain way not to deny ourselves but to have pleasure in what we do!
Looking for the target,

Right on target Hosher!
God has created us, gifted us, given us special abilities, and even a piece of His heart for an area of His Kingdom. I think one of the thing that stymies us is when we seem to get paralyzed by a our desire to be "in His will." His will for our lives is ever so clear in His Word...where that gets played out is not near as important. A good thing to remember - we don't bring God to the place we're going or the place we're "called to"...He's already there, and we're simply joining Him.
